This is Us

St Elizabeth's School Dandenong North

Welcome to St Elizabeth’s school!

We are a vibrant learning community where we aspire to instill the Gospel values in all that is said and done. We are an inclusive school, where all are welcome to be a part of our faith filled community.

At our school, the social and emotional wellbeing of every student is paramount in our children achieving success. We recognise that every child is unique; each having special needs, abilities and preferred learning styles. It is our aim to help children grow and develop their special abilities, self-confidence and self-esteem.

As a school, we are committed to the excellence of the whole child, where our vision is one that is visible and enacted in all that we do and is driven through various wellbeing and curriculum initiatives.

Our pursuit of academic excellence for each child is achieved through a dedicated staff, who use a contemporary, relevant and collaborative approach to learning. Our staff provide all our students with a wide range of opportunities to engage in rich, learning experiences in and beyond the classroom, where the needs and interests of our students are at the forefront.

Our students are encouraged to be risk takers; be leaders; be inquisitive; be creative; be innovative; be compassionate; be change makers and ultimately be themselves.

We believe that for each of our children to flourish; to be engaged in their learning; to be independent; to be resilient; to take responsibility for their choices and learning, it requires all within our school and parish community to have this same vision, dedication and commitment, which we continually strive for.

As a faith filled community we continue to build on our outstanding work that has been achieved in all curriculum areas through our contemporary approach, which we invite all to be a part of.

Come and be a part of our school community, where the child is the centre of it all!

Our Vision

St. Elizabeth’s Parish school is a Catholic Parish Primary School striving to make faith real in the world for all within our care. Parents and Staff support our students to grow to their full potential as active participating members of the faith community following Christ’s example.

Our school is focused on safety for our school community in all areas, including the physical, the relational and the digital environment.

Our educational purpose is to meet the needs of the current generation by supporting all our students to become independent and self motivated. We encourage them to be learners who have a deep understanding about themselves, others and the world around them. We strive to develop their capacity to build and maintain relationships and actively and positively contribute to the global community.

As teachers we see ourselves as a community of lifelong learners committed to the provision of innovative learning opportunities for every student. We believe that focussed teaching brings about powerful learning. We take advantage of contemporary tools and learning environments to support the provision of relevant, rich and personalised learning opportunities.

School Philosophy

"The future is not some place we are going but one we are creating. The pathways to it are not found but made and the changing of those pathways changes both the maker and the destination."

- Commission for the Future

At St Elizabeth’s School, we understand the challenges of delivering a contemporary Christian faith filled education in an environment that is constantly changing at an ever increasing speed.

Our school Community works together to manage these challenges so that our students are supported to become independent, confident, thoughtful and creative learners. Learners who know that in living their faith to the full, they will be continually striving in all they do to become the best person that they are called to be,  as well as making  this world a better place.

In a caring environment, where respect for all is expected, we use explicit and differentiated teaching along with contemporary tools and pedagogy  to support our students in this endeavour.

In all that we do, we work with parents who are the first and most important educators of their children.

Governance Statement

St Elizabeth's Primary School is a school which operates with the consent of the Catholic Archbishop of Melbourne and is

operated and governed by Melbourne Archdiocese Catholic Schools Ltd (MACS).

MACS governs and operates 292 Catholic schools in the Archdiocese to continue the mission of Catholic

education to proclaim the Good News and equip our young people with the knowledge, skills and hope to

live meaningful lives and enrich the world around them.

Because the good work of educating the young is a co-responsible task led by every member of the

Catholic school community, School Advisory Councils have been established to provide a crucial point of

connection between the wider school community and school leaders.

This governance model was designed to ease the administrative burden on our schools and parishes, allow

parish priests to focus on the mission of education in the parish, enable greater collaboration between

schools and ensure greater consistency in school policies and procedures.

Democratic Principles

At St Elizabeth’s we recognise that the school plays a vital role in advancing democratic ideals and

principles. For democracy to continue to thrive, children must be taught democratic ideals and

principles and to value its way of life. St Elizabeth’s will explicitly and implicitly support and promote

the principles of Australian democracy, including a commitment to:

  • elected government

  • the rule of law

  • equal rights for all before the law

  • freedom of religion

  • freedom of speech and association

  • the values of openness and tolerance.

Through our curricular and extracurricular programs, St Elizabeth’s will prepare our children to

become citizens who will preserve and shape democracy in the future. Democratic values will be

taught explicitly in the curriculum and implicitly in the child’s experience of the school, from classroom

practice, and from what is taught to how it is taught.
